This milestone release marks the biggest changes to WhatsUp Gold in nearly a decade with significant enhancements and additions, making IT monitoring and management faster, simpler and more secure. WhatsUp Gold v15 delivers an optimal user experience and allows IT professionals to have complete protection and control over their IT environments.

“The most important asset a network administrator has is time. Working with over 500 customers and thousands of inputs from the WhatsUp Gold user community, our development team has succeeded in creating a product that makes IT management simple and provides an exciting alternative for companies of all sizes that have traditionally been held prisoner by the outrageous fees and complexity associated with solutions from HP, IBM and CA,” said Ennio Carboni, president of Ipswitch Network Management Division. “No other vendor has successfully married ease of use and powerful function from a single pane of glass, and we are just getting started.”

WhatsUp Gold v15 provides a completely redesigned and improved user interface that is fast and highly intuitive. The topology map now includes an integrated view of network performance, security and physical and virtual IT assets across an enterprise on a single screen. Administrators have the ability to quickly visualize security summaries, alarms or events, with the flexibility to “drill down” to specific devices as needed. In addition, Event Log Management (ELM) is now integrated with WhatsUp Gold, enabling users to manage and secure their network from a single interface. Its Active Directory integration allows for easy configuration of WhatsUp Gold user security groups to manage roles, permissions and credentials. WhatsUp Gold v15 also provides integrated Layer 2 discovery and mapping so that IT professionals have a more complete picture of what is happening on their corporate network.

Flow Monitor v15 automatically discovers, detects and even configures network devices, reducing time spent on manual configurations. In addition, multiple flow sources across different devices can now be grouped, managed and treated as a single, aggregated source so that users can understand their organization’s entire bandwidth usage across multiple uplinks and locations.

Flow Monitor includes new smart auto-tuning capabilities to optimize flow retention settings, increasing performance by 300% and decreasing database storage costs, offering FIPS 140-2 validation and encryption for the highest levels of security. New customization options enable users to select among IP hostname, bytes, interface flows or packet counts when creating reports.

WhatsVirtual v15 offers a faster, more powerful virtual discovery engine, and new dynamic live maps that reflect up-to-date virtual to physical associations, enabling users to track virtual network changes in real-time. WhatsVirtual also offers FIPS 140-2 validation and encryption for security, as well as ESX/ESXi v4.1 support.

“WhatsUp Gold v15’s new interface is incredibly easy to use and allows us to quickly access critical network and security information from the same screen,” said Andy Chartier, network engineer at Northwood University. “This type of dashboard view, along with the integrated Layer 2 discovery and mapping, allows us to make informed decisions to manage and secure our network more quickly, which is a great help to our busy staff.”

“The integration of Event Log Management, Layer 2 discovery and maps in WhatsUp Gold v15 offers an executive view into the security of key enterprise assets, providing faster problem resolution and the ability to make more informed decisions on updates to network topology and infrastructure,” added Carboni. “The enhancements to WhatsUp Gold, Flow Monitor and WhatsVirtual are designed to make life easier for today’s busy network administrators, with more powerful, integrated and automated tools that provide critical network and security information quickly and easily – when, where and how you need it.”
