DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MTU Detroit Diesel Inc. today announced a name change to Tognum America Inc., effective June 1, 2011. Tognum America, like MTU Detroit Diesel before, is a subsidiary of the Germany-based Tognum Group and is responsible for the sales and service of MTU engines and MTU Onsite Energy distributed energy systems in North and Latin America. Tognum America has offices in Detroit, Houston, Washington DC, San Leandro, CA; St. Rose, LA; Miami, FL and Mankato, MN. The company also operates two state-of-the-art production facilities: one in Mankato, MN for diesel and gas-based generator sets and one in Aiken, SC where it currently machines parts and builds MTU Series 2000 and 4000 engines.
The Tognum Group is one of the world’s leading suppliers of drive, propulsion and distributed energy systems based on diesel engines with up to 9,100 kW power output and gas engines up to 2,150 kW.
The product portfolio of Tognum’s Engines business unit comprises MTU engines and propulsion systems for ships, heavy land, rail and defense vehicles and for the oil and gas industry. The portfolio of the Onsite Energy & Components business unit includes distributed energy systems of the brand MTU Onsite Energy and fuel-injection systems from L’Orange. The energy systems comprise diesel engines for emergency standby power, prime power and continuous power, as well as cogeneration power plants based on gas engines and gas turbines that generate both power and heat.
In 2010, Tognum generated revenue of around €2.56 billion and employed more than 9,000 people. Tognum has a global manufacturing, distribution and service structure with 25 fully consolidated companies, more than 140 sales partners and over 500 authorized dealerships at approximately 1,200 locations.
Tognum employs more than 750 people in North America. In 2010, 23 percent of Tognum’s revenue came from North America.
MTU Detroit Diesel evolved out of a partnership between MTU Friedrichshafen and Detroit Diesel to create one global entity focused on the off-highway engine market. Today as Tognum America, the company continues to build on the strong foundation of these two engine manufacturing giants to serve the needs of off-highway customers throughout North and Latin America.
