Speaking at the signing, Zara Phillips said: “I’m delighted to become an Ambassador for Samsung for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Samsung is using its sponsorship to encourage everyone to get involved in the Olympic Games, and I’m looking forward to helping more people actively participate and be part of London 2012. Technology plays such a huge part in helping deliver the Games to the fans, and taking the spectacle through smartphone technology to those that aren’t able to see the events in person.”

As Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, Samsung is keen to realise the contribution sponsorship of the wireless category brings to the Olympic Games. High profile and carefully chosen partners, like Zara Phillips, bring immediate and direct attention to the wealth of experience and technical capability Samsung delivers to the Olympic Games clearly highlighting this in a strong, positive light.

Mr David Song, Managing Director, Samsung UK, commented: “Today we’ve signed Zara Phillips to be Samsung’s UK ambassador for the London 2012 Games, which we are very excited about. Zara is a World and European gold medal winning equestrienne who is training to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games. About Zara Phillips

Zara Phillips was born in London and is the only daughter of Princess Anne, the Princess Royal and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips.

Zara was long listed for Athens in 2004 but her hopes of emulating her parents by competing with the British event team at an Olympic Games were dashed by an injury to Toytown that ruled him out for the rest of the year.

In June 2005, in the European Championships at Blenheim in September, Zara rode into history by taking two gold medals on her senior debut (individual and team.) In 2006, Zara achieved her greatest result to date by winning Individual Gold and Team Silver at the World Equestrian Games, Aachen 2006 where she rode Toytown. Following her historic win, Zara was awarded the 2006 BBC Sports Personality of the year.

Zara was selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics with Toytown. However it was not to be, for the second time Zara was denied the chance to compete at the Games through an injury to Toytown. At the end of the year this was followed by her own injury when she fell from her horse whilst competing and broke her collarbone.

Zara has her sights firmly set on 2012 and what the hectic competition schedule holds for her and her stable of horses in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
