Memory Lane Expands Collection of Classic TV Content with Exclusive Clips from The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson

Collection Also Grows with the Addition of 1,001 Classic TV Commercials from 1950s-1980s

SEATTLE--()--MemoryLane.com, the largest archive of nostalgic content from the 1940s through the 1990s on the Internet, has added an exclusive collection of skits and monologues from The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson to its library of historical videos. The collection features 250 clips spanning the 20 years from 1972 to 1992 and cannot be seen anywhere else on the Internet.

“In addition to being one of the most popular entertainers of his era, Johnny Carson had a profound impact on popular culture during the 30 years he hosted the Tonight show,” said Harold Zeitz, president of Memory Lane. “For many, Johnny Carson was more than an entertainer. He was a trusted member of the family who provided a much anticipated hour of laughter at the end of each weekday with a unique perspective on current events, culture and politics. For his many fans, his skits and characters still evoke strong nostalgic memories of days gone by. We are proud to feature the best of his work on Memory Lane.”

Johnny Carson took over for Jack Parr as host of the Tonight show in October, 1962. Over the next 30 years, until his retirement in 1992, Johnny Carson filmed over 4,500 episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and interviewed over 22,000 guests. He received six Emmy Awards, was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame and became an American icon.

The new Johnny Carson collection is the latest addition to Memory Lane’s archive of premium historic videos, a collection that already includes hundreds of Universal newsreels (the short films that were shown in theatres before feature films) and compilations of memorable sports highlights. The Johnny Carson clips average three minutes in length, with some running up to four minutes. In addition to Johnny Carson, many clips feature sidekick Ed McMahon, band leader Doc Severinsen and classic Johnny Carson characters including:

  • Toupee-wearing Tea Time Movie announcer Art Fern
  • Turbaned psychic Carnac the Magnificent
  • Elder affairs expert Aunt Blabby
  • Floyd R. Turbo, American

In addition to being able to view and comment on the Johnny Carson collection online, Memory Lane members can take advantage of an exclusive $29.99 offer and purchase The Ultimate Johnny Carson Collection, a 3-DVD, 7-hour compilation of Carson’s greatest moments.

Along with the Johnny Carson clips, Memory Lane has added 1,001 classic television commercials that chronicle over 30 years of American pop culture. These commercials from some of America’s best known brands feature memorable characters like Alka-Seltzer's Speedy, the Jolly Green Giant, Bugs Bunny, Yogi Bear, and Barbie and comprise a total of 960 minutes of retrospective television, jingles and all.
