SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Knowing how and where to recycle used motor oil responsibly can be a challenge for do-it-yourself changers. Understanding this problem, Royal Purple became the latest motor oil manufacturer to add Earth911’s Recycling Directory information directly on its products, enabling its users to quickly find where to recycle oil in their communities.
By providing proper disposal messaging directly on its product, Royal Purple will help prevent its motor oil from becoming an environmental contaminant. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, used motor oil from a single change can contaminate more than 1 million gallons of fresh water, or a year’s supply for 50 people.
The move enhances the company’s sustainability work, which currently focuses on creating long-lasting, synthetic oils that not only reduce heat, wear and emissions, but also enable users to reduce the amount of oil changes required.
“Partnering with Earth911 enables us to openly embrace a greener style of thinking,” said Mark McFann, Royal Purple Executive Vice President. “At Royal Purple, we believe in the importance of educating our consumers to maximize their own recycling efforts.”
“Rather than simply writing ‘please recycle’ on its products, Royal Purple’s inclusion of Earth911 on its products will actually provide information that its customers can use right away, right where they live,” said Corey Lambrecht, president of Earth911. “This is the next level of sustainability messaging that we hope more producers will adopt: Rather than telling consumers that they should recycle, showing them how and where.”
Earth911’s information will be added to Royal Purple’s motor oil packaging sometime in Q3 of this year. Earth911’s Recycling Directory is available for free at any time to all consumers via Earth911.com, iRecycle for Android and iPhone or the toll-free, bilingual hotline, 1-800-CLEANUP.
