TAUNTON, Mass.--()--Kopin Corporation (Nasdaq: KOPN), a leading manufacturer of microdisplays for commercial and U.S. military markets, will launch the Ruby Module, a new plug-&-play, digitally interfaced display module, at the Defense, Security, and Sensing 2011 Symposium. The Symposium, which opens today through Thursday at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, is sponsored by the Society for Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), an international organization advancing the science and application of light.

The Ruby Module is a commercial off the shelf full-color SVGA (800 x 600), plug-&-play display module in a compact, low power package. It accepts a wide range of digital input standards including VESA SVGA and VGA 60Hz, and is capable of operating in SVGA and VGA modes with image X-Y shifting capability to support accurate sensor alignment. Available in both military (ITAR) and commercial (EAR-99) version, Ruby is a high-performance display module suitable for a wide range of product applications.

“The purpose of our new Ruby Module is to simplify system integration of Kopin’s industry leading display products into non-custom applications,” said Tony Bacarella, Kopin’s Director of Business Development, Government Programs. “The Ruby module, measuring 25.9 mm x 25.9 mm x 9.4 mm and weighing less than 6.5 grams, is sealed to prevent foreign particles and comes with precision mounting features to ensure accurate image alignment. The module is fully calibrated and tested for consistent performance over the entire military operating temperature range and dimming range from <0.1fL (foot-Lambert) to >100fL in order to provide our customers superior image quality in demanding situations. The module is ideally suited for applications such as binocular helmet-mounted displays (HMDs), clip-on thermal systems and overlay fusions products.”

“We are delighted to add the Ruby Module to the Kopin family of display products,” said Kopin President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. John C.C. Fan. “Advancements in our display packaging technology and our ASIC developments have enabled us to offer OEMs a seamless solution to display system integration. We expect Ruby’s compact form factor to open new solution spaces in a wide range of products from video eyewear for consumer applications to HMD and weapon sights for the military.”

In addition to the Ruby module, Kopin will be demonstrating its latest displays including the CyberDisplay® SXGA LBC (full color 1280 x 1024 resolution in 0.97”), CyberDisplay SXGA LVS (full color 1280 x 1024 resolution in 0.77”) and CyberDisplay®1280M (monochrome 1280 x 1024 resolution in 0.97”) displays. Kopin will also exhibit standard off-the-shelf eyepiece solutions based upon the CyberDisplay 640M LVR (640 x 480) microdisplay, an ultra-low-power active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) with near instant-on capability. This eyepiece product offering has been fully qualified in the U.S. Army’s Thermal Weapon Sight Bridge (TWS-IIB) program on an array of weapons. The fully integrated eyepiece solution is in volume production and available to qualified customers.
