CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Irdeto, a global software security and media technology company, announced today a successful close to fiscal year 2011, with increased market penetration in the U.S. and a solidified position as the top security partner for broadcast, cable, satellite and over-the-top (OTT) operators offering premium content on a vast array of new consumer devices. Over the past year, Irdeto added several household names to its roster of U.S. customers and unveiled Irdeto ActiveCloak for Media, the first and only dynamic security solution to protect and monetize high-value digital entertainment assets by augmenting standard DRM with renewability and diversity.
“Whether the business objectives of broadcast, satellite, cable and OTT operators are to maintain customer loyalty, generate new subscribers or introduce new features and services – our growth in this market is clear proof that dynamic, software-based security is critical to success in the multi-device market,” said David Canellos, global vice president of Sales and Marketing for Irdeto. “Premier digital entertainment companies are working with Irdeto because we provide the safest environment for premium content without compromising the user experience.”
In-Stat research estimates that 40 percent of all U.S. households will have at least one Internet-connected TV within the next five years, a powerful trend forcing media companies to aggressively seek out premium entertainment to differentiate their offerings. One year ago at the NAB Show, Irdeto revealed that Netflix licensed its patented Cloakware technology. Since then, the companies have worked together to enable the secure delivery of movies and TV shows streamed instantly to Netflix members via a range of consumer devices. Irdeto was the first announced security partner in the Google TV ecosystem by protecting the Logitech Revue and announced in January it is also protecting the Boxee Box by D-Link.
“As millions of new consumer devices attach to ubiquitous networks, the problem of how to keep premium content secure grows exponentially,” said Gerry Kaufhold, Principal Analyst at In-Stat Research. “By 2014, we expect many households to contain over a dozen devices in addition to TV sets and DVRs. Irdeto’s technology certainly fits the need to provide flexible, yet reliable, security as this market experiences global growth.”
When Irdeto announced its support of Adobe’s Flash Access 2.0 at NAB 2010, the company cemented its reputation as a partner that can seamlessly work with any leading DRM on the market, including Microsoft PlayReady. This capability was essential in launching Irdeto ActiveCloak for Media, a solution aimed at elevating standard DRM platforms with integrated renewability, diverse security and piracy monitoring for a wide range of popular content distribution platforms – including tablets, smartphones, iPads, PCs, connected TVs, game consoles and hybrid STBs.
Outside the U.S., Irdeto’s global footprint has also increased over the past fiscal year, with continued growth and significant investments made in technology and R&D. On the heels of NAB 2010, Irdeto announced the opening of an innovative new Western headquarters in The Netherlands, and subsequently introduced Centers of Excellence to support customers in South East Asia and China. Today, those facilities serve to showcase cutting edge concepts and foster the development of new innovations for the digital media age. To effectively deliver its solution portfolio to more than 500 global customers that include Astro, Foxtel, Sony, Comcast, DirecTV Latin America, Multichoice Africa, Viasat and Sky Deutschland, the company increased its headcount by 25 percent in the past year.
