Heelys Are Not Just for Kids Anymore – New Styles with Larger Sizes Has Adults Getting in on the Fun

CARROLLTON, Texas--()--U.S.-based Heelys, Inc. (NASDAQ: HLYS), creators of the shoe with a wheel in the heel, has always been popular with kids. However, while Heelys continues to see high demand from their younger fans, they’re also starting to hear more adults show enthusiasm for their product.

According to Rick Groesch, Heelys chief commercial officer, because Heelys are typically viewed as products for children, tweens, and teens, people assume they only come in youth sizing. Adults are often surprised to find that they come in larger sizes as well: “We get quite a few requests for larger sizes in Heelys,” he says. “More and more adults are seeing kids have a blast with our product and want to get in on the fun. As a response to this growing demand, we’re continuing to offer dozens of styles in larger sizes.”

In addition to having fun with the kids, adults are finding other uses for their Heelys. Laurie Cooper, popular mommy blogger from Guessing All the Way, and mother of two kids, plans to turn grocery shopping from a time-consuming chore to a much more fun activity by wearing her Heelys. She says, “Who wants to just walk the aisles? We’re going to start heeling down the aisles. We’re going to take our shoes, and we’re just going to cruise.”

Aside from having fun, adults can expect another great benefit from using Heelys: help shedding off those unwanted pounds. By skating, walking, or running in a pair of Heelys, adults can help strike a balance between fun and fitness and burn off some extra calories. Laurie says, “When I use them I can feel a burn in the front of my legs, so I do think it is a great way to get some exercise, as well as just be there and have fun with your kids.”

With the introduction of its Spring/Summer line, Heelys is continuing to expand on the growing number of styles available in adult sizing. Planning a phased rollout, Heelys will be releasing its new styles over the coming months to help keep fresh options for kids and adults alike throughout the summer season. Depending on the style, sizes will be available in up to a Men’s 12, while prices will range from $49.99 to $54.99.

Heelys, Inc. is a company founded on innovation. It designs, markets and distributes its action sports-oriented products to the youth market under the Heelys ® brand. Its new product, Heelys Hx2, uses two wheels for better balance and control, making it ideal for younger users. Heelys’ third offering, Nano, ramps up the Heelys experience by giving skaters a board that links into the patented Heelys shoe bracket.
