NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, a global law firm, today announced that Thomas J. Reid has been elected managing partner. He succeeds John R. Ettinger and is joined on Davis Polk’s three-person Management Committee by John A. Bick and Carey R. Dunne.
Mr. Reid, 46, has served for the past three years on Davis Polk’s Management Committee as head of the firm’s Corporate Department. Born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, he joined Davis Polk as an associate in 1987 and was elected partner in 1995, working in both its New York and London offices. In 2000, Mr. Reid left the firm to become a managing director in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley in London. He rejoined Davis Polk in 2003 and since then has represented numerous blue-chip companies and financiers in Europe and the U.S. across a broad range of capital markets, M&A and corporate governance matters.
Mr. Reid has been instrumental in the direction and execution of the firm’s Financial Institutions practice and its international strategy, highlighted by the recent expansion of the firm’s practice in Asia and the opening of the firm’s office in São Paulo, Brazil, which will occur later this year. He earned his LL.B. with First Class Honours from the University of Edinburgh in 1986 and his LL.M. from Columbia in 1987. Mr. Reid serves as a Trustee of the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City.
Mr. Bick is newly elected to the firm’s Management Committee as global head of the firm’s 485-lawyer Corporate Department. He is a senior acquisitions lawyer who advises his corporate and private equity clients regarding their acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships and corporate governance and board matters. Mr. Bick joined the firm in 1983 after earning his J.D. from Columbia Law School. He was based in the Paris office from 1986 to 1988 and was elected partner in 1991.
Mr. Dunne heads the firm’s litigation practice and has served on the Management Committee since 2005. He represents clients in a wide variety of criminal, civil and regulatory matters, including grand jury inquiries, internal investigations, enforcement actions by state and federal agencies, and complex commercial disputes. He was a prosecutor in the office of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau from 1984 through 1987. Mr. Dunne has represented clients all around the world in white collar criminal and regulatory matters involving allegations of securities fraud, insider trading, foreign corrupt practices, money laundering and other financial crimes. He also has extensive experience advising companies, boards and audit committees on compliance and corporate governance issues. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1984 and joined Davis Polk from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office in 1987. He was elected to the partnership in 1993.
