Cloudmark Recognized for Fusion Powered Innovation in Computerworld’s SNW Spring 2011 Best Practices Awards Program

Leading Messaging Security Provider Named as Finalist for Excellence in IT Infrastructure Deployment Based on Fusion-io Technology

SNW Spring 2011

SALT LAKE CITY--()--Fusion-io, a pioneer of a next-generation storage memory platform for shared data decentralization, today announced that Fusion-io customer Cloudmark, Inc., a global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, has been selected as a finalist in the category of Best Practices in Storage Resiliency, Data Protection and Recovery in the SNW Spring 2011 Best Practices Awards Program. The finalists were selected by a panel of judges from SNW organizers SNIA and IDG’s Computerworld.

Cloudmark provides messaging security and infrastructure solutions that protect subscribers and networks from spam, phishing and viruses. Cloudmark’s solutions are architected on a foundation designed to stop current and emerging threat vectors with high efficiency and scalability.

As Cloudmark’s data load grew, so did its performance requirements and disk investment. “Adding Fusion Powered I/O in each Cloudmark server drastically reduced replication I/O bottleneck, improving our average system reads and writes over five times,” explained Ryan White, Cloudmark Director of Operations. “In addition, the Fusion-io solution eliminated 210 spinning disks supporting the slave servers and recovered 27U of rack space. These performance improvements allow Cloudmark to optimize the utilization of our CPUs, which enabled us to discover new ways to use our system’s processors more efficiently.” Complete details on Cloudmark’s Fusion-io solution are available in the case study.

“It’s inspiring to see innovators like Cloudmark recognized by our industry for their forward-thinking data management solutions,” said Neil Carson, Fusion-io Chief Technology Officer. “It’s no accident that Cloudmark has emerged as one of the most widely deployed messaging security solutions in the world today. Keeping their most process-critical data in the server where it has direct access to their databases has helped the Cloudmark team reduce latency and boost performance in order to maintain the unrivaled accuracy and speed expected by their global customers.”

All finalists, including one winner in each category, will be recognized at SNW Spring 2011, taking place April 4-7, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Silicon Valley/Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. Fusion-io will be attending SNW in booth 406. Fusion-io Chief Scientist Steve Wozniak will present the first keynote address at SNW 2011 on the Pursuit of Innovation at 11:30 a.m. PT Monday, April 4. Fusion-io Chief Technology Officer Neil Carson will discuss storage class memory deployment at Laurence Livermore National Laboratory at 3:05 p.m. PT on Wednesday, April 6.

SNW’s Best Practices Awards Program recognizes excellence in IT infrastructure deployment in the following four categories:

  • Best Practices in Adopting Emerging and Innovative Technologies
  • Best Practices in IT Consolidation, IT Efficiency and Data Center Design
  • Best Practices in Storage Resiliency, Data Protection and Recovery
  • Best Practices in Virtualization and Cloud Computing

“Storage management is at the center of IT infrastructure and management, and the finalists in SNW’s Best Practices Awards Program have shown they are among an elite group of organizations on the leading edge of adopting innovative IT management technologies," said John Amato, vice president and publisher, Computerworld. "Throughout the past few years of business challenges, these finalists have continued to innovate and deliver measurable value. We are pleased to honor the achievements of the 20 finalists who have showcased excellence in managing today’s information infrastructure.”

About Fusion-io

Fusion-io has pioneered a next-generation storage memory platform for shared data decentralization that significantly improves the processing capabilities within a datacenter by relocating process-critical, or "active," data from centralized storage to the server where it is being processed, a methodology referred to as data decentralization. Fusion’s integrated hardware and software solutions leverage non-volatile memory to significantly increase datacenter efficiency and offers enterprise grade performance, reliability, availability and manageability. Fusion’s data decentralization platform can transform legacy architectures into next-generation datacenters, and allows enterprises to consolidate or significantly reduce complex and expensive high-performance storage, high-performance networking and memory-rich servers. Fusion’s platform enables enterprises to increase the utilization, performance and efficiency of their datacenter resources and extract greater value from their information assets.
