Toshiba Achieves Highest HDD Performance in Benchmark Testing

Toshiba MBF Series 2.5-Inch Enterprise Drives Deliver Superior Performance and Reduced Power Consumption

IRVINE, Calif.--()--Toshiba, a leader in high performance 2.5-inch enterprise-class hard disk drive (HDDs) technologies, announces achievement of the highest levels of performance according to benchmark testing* conducted on equipment manufactured by Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI). The testing demonstrated that Toshiba’s MBF series drives provide superior read and write performance, seek time, and power efficiency.

For the performance metrics, Iometer benchmark tool was used on a Supermicro SuperChassis 216E26 2U 24-bay system equipped with an X8DT3-F motherboard with dual Intel® Xeon® E5520 processors.* The system was tested with Toshiba MBF2600RC HDDs and then with mainstream industry HDDs of similar form factor and capacity (600GB). In addition to superior read and write performance (see performance comparison below), the Toshiba MBF2600RC drive also demonstrated superior idle power (4.0 Watts vs. 5.0 Watts), seek time track-to-track (0.2/0.4 ms vs. 0.3/0.55 ms) and average seek time (4.0/4.4 ms vs. 4.0/4.54 ms).*
