TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 24th Taipei International Cycle Show Grand Opening Ceremony took place yesterday at Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall (TWTC Nangang). Strongly supported by Taiwan bicycle industry, “Taipei International Cycle Show has become the most important show in Asia,” said Dr. Wang Chih Kang, the chairman of TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council). Taipei Cycle has been recognized by three important elements: “High Quality, Creative Design and Innovation.” With regard to the lack of exhibit space, the show organizer is planning to build a temporary hall next year to accommodate those exhibitors on the waiting list. It is estimated that the scale of Taipei Cycle Show will reach a 10% growth in 2012.
The chairman of TBEA (Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’ Association), Tony Lo, also states that the raise of the unit price of a complete bike explains how Taiwan is now the supply center for high-end bicycle products in the world. This industry is undoubtedly one of the leading industries in Taiwan.
An important event during the show is the IBDC Award. The winners were announced yesterday, and the gold award goes to “ARIA”, designed by Marco Mainardi (Italy), followed by “SOMERSET”, designed by Chen-Wei, Chang and Chai-chi, Chang, and “Hybrid Golf”, designed by Ho Yip Shing (Hong Kong). Another Spotlight in the show is the new “Taiwan Excellence Pavilion”, which showcases 44 products that have won global design awards or Taiwan Excellence award from 18 companies.
Furthermore, the world famous Italian brand Colnago displays two bikes for anniversary: one model, with availability of only 150, is for the celebration of the 150th year of the Italy unification, and the other is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of China.
In addition to extending condolences to victims of Friday’s devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the show organizer announces that some Japanese visitors and those who need to transfer their flights in Japan have canceled their trips, however, this aftershock does not affect the international visitors from Europe and the U.S.A. The total number of international visitors has risen to 3,823, showing a 16.5% growth in comparison to the first day of 2010 Taipei Cycle Show. “The result turns out to be satisfactory so far,” said Jeremy Horng, the executive director of exhibition department, TAITRA.
The 2011 Taipei Cycle Show is held from March 16 to 19 at Nangang Exhibition Hall. March 16-18 (the first three days) only open for trade visitors by invitation, and March 19 (the last day) opens to trade and general public at admission fee of NT$100 (Minors under 12 are not permitted to enter the showground).
