SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BitTorrent Inc., a leading innovator creating advanced technologies to efficiently move large files across the Internet, today announced the availability of a new spotlight film, the critically-acclaimed thriller Zenith.
Released today by Cinema Purgatorio and distributed by online pioneer VODO, Zenith is being offered as a series of episodes, with Part One available for download today.
Described by The Hollywood Reporter as an “Imaginative sci-fi thriller,” the film follows a father and son tracking Zenith: a grand and elusive conspiracy that has upturned the world.
BitTorrent Inc. will feature Zenith Part One in various promotions to the company’s massive audience of over 100 million active monthly users. The film segment will be offered when new users download either the BitTorrent Mainline or µTorrent software, via Web banners, and social media.
“We continue to experiment with ongoing content spotlights to help creators connect with the BitTorrent community,” said Shahi Ghanem, BitTorrent’s chief strategist. “The team behind Zenith is on the cutting edge of digital distribution, and we laud their efforts and encourage our users to check out Part One…it’s an edge-of-your-seat treat.”
“BitTorrent’s technology makes it ideal for the logistical distribution of films to consumers. The fact that the company has a massive built-in audience makes it an ideal platform to spotlight Zenith,” said Ray Privett, Cinema Purgatorio. “This experiment will help us learn more about the long-term opportunities, and we are pleased to work with BitTorrent in this regard.”
Fans of Zenith can support the release via vodo.net/zenith with donations from $5 and up. In return they can receive premium downloads, DVDs with exclusive extras, masks from the production, and more. For $1000, supporters can even partake in a clandestine meeting with a character from the film. Donations will also earn credits - and even executive producer credits - on subsequent VODO releases of the film, and on "The Next Zenith Tapes" - which continue the Zenith story and will be funded entirely from direct audience support.
Fans can watch the trailer at the film’s Web site, download the torrent file here, or simply download the latest versions of BitTorrent Mainline or uTorrent and accept the free film.
BitTorrent also announced today that Spotlight band Sick of Sarah surpassed the one million download milestone. Details available here.
