MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Burson-Marsteller, a leading global public relations and communications consultancy, today announced the appointment of Claudia Gioia as its Miami Market Leader. Gioia heads the agency’s Innovation and Technology practice for Latin America and has been responsible for all of the practice’s clients in the region, through 10 offices, for the last eight years. She currently leads relationships with clients such as Sony Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Goodyear, Symantec, Visa, HP Enterprise, HBO Latin America, and NII Holdings, among other Fortune 500 companies. Gioia is based in the firm’s Miami office and reports to Santiago Hinojosa, Burson-Marsteller’s President & CEO for Latin America.
“We are thrilled that Claudia will lead Burson-Marsteller’s Miami office as Market Leader, where we see many growth opportunities,” said Hinojosa. “She brings great multidisciplinary experience in leadership roles to her new position, while her expertise and knowledge of this market makes this thriving region a continuing asset to the firm and our clients.” Gioia replaces Ramiro Prudencio, who was recently promoted to Chief Operating Officer for Burson-Marsteller Latin America.
Gioia, who has 23 years of communications experience, joined Burson-Marsteller as a Latin American Market Leader in 1995 and was responsible for the firm’s operations in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Within a few months of her arrival, the Buenos Aires office doubled its income, winning new clients such as Dow Chemical, Cadbury, Molinos, Westinghouse, Quilmes, Raytheon, Johnson & Johnson, Volvo and Danone. During her tenure in Buenos Aires, Burson-Marsteller Argentina was recognized as first in a national ranking of PR agencies. Gioia was promoted to a regional position and transferred to Burson-Marsteller Miami in 2003.
Gioia brings to Burson-Marsteller her experience from a multidisciplinary career, which started at a very young age in the advertising industry at agencies such as Schussheim-Braga Menendez and J. Walter Thompson. At the age of 25, she founded Estrategia SA, a public relations agency, later acquired by Burson-Marsteller. During those early years, she also founded a publishing house, Im-Pulsar SRL, for specialized publications in industry technologies and writing arts.
Gioia completed her studies in political science at the Universidad Católica de Argentina, with courses and seminars in social psychology, strategic marketing, and digital graphic design, among others. She has given lectures and speeches at several universities, including the University of Florida, Florida International University, Universidad de Palermo, Universidad de Moron, and Unversidad Argentina de la Empresa. She has also participated in juror panels, such as the ECC Advertising Awards and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
