University of Houston Cougars Win 2010 Marketer of the Year Award

The University athletic department took home the grand prize at the recent American Marketing Association Houston Chapter awards event

HOUSTON--()--The American Marketing Association (AMA) Houston Chapter announced the University of Houston Cougars as the 2010 Marketer of the Year on Monday night during the AMA’s annual award ceremony at the Alley Theatre. The Marketer of the Year award honors exceptional marketing by Houston-area companies, organizations and institutions. The University of Houston was selected from among 42 Best of Category winners, who were also recognized at the event.

The University of Houston athletic department won the prestigious award in part for its success in creating a unified brand identity for all 14 sports for the first time in 10 years, an effort that enhanced positioning and generated enthusiasm both on campus and in the community.

Representing last year’s Marketer of the Year Blinds.com, Chief Marketing Officer Daniel Cotlar, was on hand to present the University of Houston with its award. This year’s Marketer of the Year keynote speaker Matt Biespiel, senior director, global brand development, McDonald’s Corporation, spoke on How McDonald’s Builds and Leverages its Brand. Biespiel is McDonald’s global lead on brand strategy, development and standards, elevating the global advertising campaign: “I’m lovin’ it.”

This year AMA named 42 companies as Best in Category winners through a process of member voting and scoring by a local judging panel of marketing professionals. Best of Category winners then submitted detailed information regarding their marketing challenges and results. This information was reviewed by a specially selected group of leading marketing professionals outside of Houston who selected the 2010 Marketer of the Year.
