Dispelling the Myths of Marcellus: The Marcellus Shale Gas Environmental Summit is Imminent

PITTSBURGH--()--According to many, the future of US energy security may already exist thousands of feet below the surface of the earth in the Marcellus Shale Play. Accessing it, however, has created media frenzy.

The Marcellus Shale Gas Environmental Summit taking place on March 28-30 at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA is the key meeting for industry stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to drive the future development of the Marcellus Shale Play.

The White House noted recently that the development of shale gas is expected to significantly increase U.S. energy security and help reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

Because of a lack of understanding of the science of shale drilling, the public relations issues facing the industry are threatening to halt production. This event will bring together oil and gas companies, associations, environmental experts, and federal and state regulators to discuss the regulatory problems, PR issues, and the hard science and environmental responsibilities facing E&P and midstream operations, and responsible courses of action for further development.

In lead up to the summit, key note presenter John Centofanti, Director of Safety and Environment, EQT Corporation contributed his thoughts on the current state of the industry in an article – An Honest View: Dispelling the Myths of Marcellus.

The article explores the challenges and environmental concerns associated with hydraulic fracturing, regulatory constraints, and the abundance of ‘Shaleionaires’.
