Half Price Books Continues Expansion in California and Texas

Family-Owned Chain Has Great Opening Celebration in Dublin This Week

DALLAS--()--Half Price Books, the nation’s largest family-owned new and used bookstore chain, continues its expansion with the Great Opening of its Dublin, Calif. location on Thursday, March 3. The store, located at 7898 Dublin Blvd., will mark the bookseller’s fourth location in California, and its 112th store in the United States.

The new store, one of four in California, is the state’s largest Half Price Books location, occupying roughly 10,800 square feet in the Dublin Retail Center. The store will celebrate its Great Opening with free tote bags and $5 Half Price Books gift cards for the first 100 people at the store Thursday, March 3 through Monday, March 7. One lucky shopper each day will win a $100 gift card.

Dublin has not been Half Price Books’ only store growth in 2011. The bookstore chain opened its 111th location in Mansfield, Texas on Feb. 10, with hundreds waiting in line for tote bags and gift cards each morning of the Great Opening weekend. This location marked the 20th store in Dallas-Fort Worth, giving Half Price Books more locations in the area than any other book retail chain.

Half Price Books plans to open its 113th store in San Antonio in June, its fifth location in the area.

Half Price Books has taken advantage of lower real estate prices in recent years and does not borrow money to open or move stores.

“Half Price Books has continued to expand and be successful even as other booksellers have struggled. This is because we offer a unique product mix that no other store is able to replicate,” said Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president of Half Price Books. “Since we buy from the public, our stores offer an attractive option for people needing extra cash, and we’re able to provide cheaper forms of entertainment. We’re excited to have expanded in Dublin and Mansfield and look forward to becoming a part of their communities."
