Mitsubishi Electric to Supply Ozone System for Kraft Pulp and Paper Mill in China

TOKYO--()--Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) announced today that it has received orders from Jiangsu Oji Paper Co., Ltd, a Chinese joint venture company of Oji Paper Co., Ltd., for ozone systems to be used in facilities producing kraft pulp, a paper material made of wooden chips that are treated in heat with chemicals. The orders, worth approximately one billion yen in total, comprise ozone generators and their construction works, which will be used to bleach kraft pulps. Deliveries will begin from February 2012, and the operation of the system will start from 2013.

Oji Paper established Jiangsu Oji Paper Co., Ltd. in 2007 in Nantong, located in southern China, to produce high-quality paper and pulp and support its expanding business in East Asia. Jiangsu Oji Paper began shipments of high-quality paper in January 2011, and is constructing its massive pulp production facilities with an annual production capacity of 0.7 million tons that will begin operations in 2013.

The ozone systems will be used to bleach kraft pulp, lessening environmental pollution by eliminating harmful chlorine compounds contained in waste water resulting from the production process. Oji Paper plans the production capacity of ozone at 600 kg every hour, one of the largest ozone production volumes in East Asia.
