HIMSS 2011

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. & ORLANDO, Fla.--()--HIMSS11 Annual Conference & Exhibition—

Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA), a leading provider of IT-based business solutions, including advanced technology products, biometric security, and digital media solutions, will showcase its premier solutions for healthcare—the Med-Serv™ 50 Patient Kiosk and PalmSecure™ palm vein authentication—in booth #5750 at the 2011 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference & Exhibition (HIMSS11). HIMSS11 takes place February 20-24, 2011 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

WHAT:

Demos of the Fujitsu innovative solutions for healthcare and overview of successful customer deployments will be available in the company’s booth. Featured products will include:

The Med-Serv 50 Patient Kiosk is a secure, free-standing, self-service patient registration terminal that empowers patients to update personal information directly linked to medical records and make co-payments. Information can be collected using the virtual keyboard, a credit card or the Fujitsu PalmSecure biometric patient identification technology. The Kiosk supports multiple languages, allowing patients to provide information in a familiar and discrete manner, and integrates seamlessly with electronic medical records (EMRs) and practice management systems. For patients, the Med-Serv kiosk means no waiting in line, fewer data entry errors/more accurate information and less stress. For healthcare providers, the technology delivers improved efficiency and cash flow visibility.

Leading healthcare organizations across the country have deployed Med-Serv technology, including George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) in Washington, DC, a 550-physician group made up of the faculty of the George Washington University School of Medicine, and Springfield Clinic, a 300-provider multi-specialty physician group with 24 locations in Springfield, Ill. and the surrounding 14 counties. Springfield Clinic currently has more than 50 kiosks in use across more than 24 clinics.

PalmSecure technology provides highly reliable biometric authentication based on palm vein patterns for healthcare data and identity management. Unlike other readers, the PalmSecure device does not come into contact with the skin, making this contactless, non-traceable technology extremely hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors (such skin abrasions, conditions or chemical damages). With HIPAA now requiring organizations to use two forms of authentication to access EMRs and other sensitive data, the technology’s application in healthcare is clear. PalmSecure biometric solution provides industry-leading authentication accuracy and extremely low false positive rates, delivering security in a form factor suitable for healthcare environments. Applications include: protecting patient records, enabling enhanced employee time and attendance management, delivering authentication for patient registration (including for patient kiosks), improving patient services through secure information sharing, improving patient safety and reducing medical errors, and reducing insurance and billing fraud.

The PalmSecure biometric solution is in use at leading healthcare organizations across the country, including the Carolinas HealthCare System’s (CHS’s) Charlotte-area hospitals and Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Mo.

CHS is the largest healthcare system in the Carolinas and the third-largest public system in the nation. The system’s Charlotte-area hospitals have deployed the PalmSecure systems in patient registration sites to more securely and effectively register patient information and protect patients’ medical record and identity. Today, more than 1.5 million patients are registered using the PalmSecure system and have profiles in place to help safeguard their information and enhance their safety.

Bates County Memorial Hospital is a 60-bed acute facility serving Bates County and surrounding areas. The hospital is using the PalmSecure solution for its employee time and attendance system. Since replacing its previous fingerprint-based system with the PalmSecure technology, the hospital has experienced numerous benefits, including enhanced ease of use and reliability, improved infection control, greater consistency in staff clocking in and out, and seamless, future integration with the hospital’s physical access control system.

WHO:

Josh Napua, VP of healthcare solutions at FFNA, is available to provide a comprehensive overview of both products and discuss how the company’s solutions are meeting a wide range of security and authentication needs in the healthcare industry and delivering financial, compliance and efficiency benefits to organizations across the country.

In addition, Jim Hewitt, CIO at Springfield Clinic, will be on site and available to talk about his organization’s successful implementation and use of the Med-Serv Patient Kiosks and significant benefit that the system has delivered for patients and providers alike.
