ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Coop in Norway, with revenue of 4 billion euros and a market share of 24% is the second largest food retailer of this north European country. The retailer plans to build a distribution center covering all temperature zones in close proximity of the capital Oslo. The formal order was received by the general contractor WITRON Logistik + Informatik Gmbh from Coop Norge Handel AS the first week of December. The WITRON logistics experts succeeded in the design competition, due to a future oriented overall concept, extensive experience with the successful completion of many projects against a variety of competitors and lowered cost per case handling. “The complete concept impressed us regarding its cost-efficiency, ergonomics, energy efficiency and flexibility,“ states Halvor Nassvik, at Coop Norge Handel AS. Like many Food Retailers worldwide, Coop puts its trust in the automated WITRON logistics solutions OPM, DPS, CPS and ETP.
This logistics building has a size of about 50,000 m2 (535,000 square feet), and from this warehouse Coop will supply the eastern parts of Norway. The distribution centre will also cover the central warehouse function for slow moving and special items for Coop’s 850 stores in the whole of Norway. The site will hold nearly 12,500 different articles/SKUs from the dry-assortment, fresh assortment (36˚F degrees), as well as the frozen product assortment (-13˚F degrees) and fruit and vegetable products (45˚F degrees and 54˚F degrees).
All pallet/stacker cranes and conveyors will be built by the WITRON subsidiary FAS - equipped with environmentally friendly power saving- and synchronous propulsion technology. The material flow in all stock areas and temperature zones is clever in design and interlaced with the highest logistic efficiency. “The WITRON technology will enable us to offer our customer an optimal and sustainable store-service for many years to come,“ highlights Mr. Nassvik the competitive advantages for Coop.
WITRON supplied the design, and will supply the IT, PLC-controls and all mechanics. Technical service and operation of the logistics center will be managed by a WITRON On-site Team.
