WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Picis announced its Perioperative and Critical Care solutions version 8.3, which offers new tools to help clinicians perform medication interaction checks, manage costs associated with surgery, standardize patient-care documentation and analysis, and streamline reporting processes to qualify for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) federal funding.

Perioperative and Critical Care 8.3 is designed to help hospitals improve patient care and safety, while overcoming rising costs and regulatory pressures.
New features in Perioperative and Critical Care 8.3:
- Automated medication interaction checks, which present potential interaction and allergy information to clinicians as an integrated piece of a patient’s chart right in the operating room (OR), flagging any potential adverse effects in near real time.
“The Picis solution is spot-on. Having potential interactions and patient allergies displayed in a panel even before the anesthesiologist suggests the drugs they’re going to administer is one crucial way this will help us provide better quality care,” said Dr. Andrew Watt, CMIO at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.
- Content library of clinical documentation best practices for quick reference by clinicians. This reference information supports consistency and compliance of perioperative and critical care standards.
- Quality reporting portal, which captures and automatically analyzes hospital patient and compliance data and generates regulatory reports that demonstrate meaningful use of health information technology and adherence with national quality measures, including the Surgical Care Improvement Process (SCIP), Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and Joint Commission requirements. The Web-based platform makes it easy for hospital IT departments to access current information for reports.
“The amount of data required by different agencies is becoming overwhelming,” said Mary Lynch, manager of Clinical Informatics at Cape Cod Healthcare in Hyannis, Mass. “The automated reporting offered by Picis will help cut down on administrative requirements for OR staff, so they can focus on patient care. In the past, manually extracting data required for reports would often take longer than the time the patient actually stayed in the hospital.”
“With surgery accounting for more than 50 percent of hospital revenue, and evolving requirements around comprehensive quality reporting and improved coordination of care, hospitals are under increasing pressure to improve efficiencies and ensure compliance in perioperative and critical care” said Todd Cozzens, CEO of Picis. “With Picis Perioperative and Critical Care 8.3, we’re providing flexible technology that enables hospitals to drive these efficiencies within each facility’s operating rooms and exchange critical patient and clinical information with their partners in patient care.”
