City of Portland Awards Office Supplies Contract to Office Depot

Contract Features a Series of ‘Green’ Innovations including Electric-Assist Cargo Trike Delivery and Reports that Support the City’s LEED for Existing Buildings Efforts

BOCA RATON, Fla.--()--Office Depot (NYSE:ODP), celebrating 25 years as a leading global provider of office supplies and services, today announced that the Company has been awarded a five year contract for office supplies from the City of Portland, Oregon. This new agreement enables Portland - and other organizations that can purchase based upon the cooperative procurement language within the City’s contract - to take advantage of significant discounts on conventional and greener products, including ink and toner, from Office Depot. The new contract took effect as of January 1, 2011.

Under this new agreement, office supplies will be delivered to a portion of City office locations by electric-assist cargo trikes from B-Line, a small local business, at no additional cost to the City. By replacing delivery vans with electric-assist cargo trikes, Portland will benefit in multiple ways: the downtown area will have less traffic, there will be fewer local air emissions, and the carbon footprint of the City’s office supplies delivery will be dramatically lowered. These outcomes are huge steps toward supporting both the City’s and Office Depot’s environmental goals.

“We are very excited that once again the greenest city in America - the City of Portland - has selected Office Depot to help them take care of business and the planet,” said Yalmaz Siddiqui, Director of Environmental Strategy for Office Depot. “Thanks to our innovative transportation team that constantly works to support our environmental vision to increasingly buy green, be green and sell green, we were able to implement yet another environmental first among the major office products providers in the US: delivery by bike!”

“In addition to the trike delivery, Office Depot continues to support the City’s sustainable procurement and green building goals by providing a variety of environmentally preferable products and custom usage reports,” said Stacey Foreman, City of Portland, Sustainable Procurement Coordinator. “We selected Office Depot based on a combination of factors: price, rebates, ease of use, customer service, green usage reports and overall contribution to our sustainability goals.”
