SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation (SCCR) provides tertiary rehabilitation care to patients across New Brunswick with complex physical and neurological impairments. SCCR has chosen the Orion HealthTM Patient Portal, a secure web-based technology from Orion Health, to help SCCR improve communication between patients and their provider care teams, while maintaining a high-level of security. The patient portal supports the delivery of best practice care plans, helps with continuity of care when new members are introduced to the care group and facilitates quality measurement and reporting to all interested parties.
The Patient Portal deployment comes on the heels of the Provincial roll out of the Orion Health Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution, which provides a platform for and integrates seamlessly with the Patient Portal. New Brunswick’s provincial EHR has been dubbed, “One Patient One Record” and was funded by Canada Health Infoway. The solution provides a platform for exchanging patient information between healthcare providers across the entire province to enable a shared view of the patient records and provides a foundation for community care and disease management solutions.
Lise Bleau at Stan Cassidy Centre states that interdisciplinary treatment plans are crucial to successful rehabilitation. “We have health care professionals at our facility, community-based therapists, local physicians, hospital-based clinicians, family members and even school teachers that may be members of a patient’s circle of care. Communication, including video, is important to keep all members up to date, providing proper delivery of rehabilitation services.”
“The record of communication among the circle of care on the Patient Portal over the course of a patient’s rehabilitation is also crucial in the continuity of care. If care givers are reassigned or new caregivers are added, delay of care can be minimized as these new caregivers get up to speed. Also, if a caregiver was not available at the time of communication, the new information is waiting for them,” continued Bleau.
Paul Viskovich, President Orion Health North America, stated that SCCR polled their provider and caregiver workforce and asked, what would help improve patient care and your ability to provide it? One of the answers was to find a way, when possible, for rehabilitation to happen at the site of patient care and bring stakeholders together, without increased travel. The Patient Portal enables just that. Caregivers and patients are together at least electronically, if not geographically, and are kept abreast of accomplishments, new paths of treatment or new complications, just as they would in a more traditional setting.
The Orion Health Patient Portal will help the Stan Cassidy Centre integrate rehabilitation data from patient and healthcare providers located across a broad rural region. Rehabilitation assessment results; recommendations of actions, exercises, and equipment; pictures or videos of the patient; video recordings of videoconferences or of therapy sessions; questionnaires; library resources and other information relevant to the patient’s rehabilitation will be easily accessible, regardless of where the care was provided, in one comprehensive view. By centralizing the data for review, healthcare workers can best coordinate treatment plans and better track progress.
The SCCR is recognized as a Canadian leader and in the forefront of modern rehabilitation care, and a member of Canada’s Health Infoway Patient Access to Quality Care initiative. Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation is one of the first organizations to select the new and enhanced Orion Health Patient Portal in addition to the Orion Health EHR currently deployed in New Brunswick. The core Orion Health EHR includes features to integrate patient data into existing systems, analyze and report trends, and improve the efficiency of healthcare business through a completely web-based solution.
