WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Laid-off workers and other job seekers can now create lists of local businesses as well as personalize their career exploration by setting work preferences at mySkills myFuture, the transferable skills website from CareerOneStop and the U.S. Department of Labor. Visitors to www.mySkillsmyFuture.org can experience these enhancements as they use the site to learn about transferable skills, identify new career options, locate local training opportunities, and view and apply for job listings in their area.
The new “Find Businesses” feature on mySkills myFuture enables job seekers to create lists of businesses that typically hire workers in a particular occupation. Users simply enter their ZIP code to find lists of local employers including contact information for corporations, small businesses, non-profits, and government agencies. This employer information can be used for networking, job leads, and other job search research.
The new “Narrow Your Results” feature lets users filter their list of Career Matches by removing occupations that often require certain work characteristics such as physical strength, outdoor work, irregular schedules, and more. After users enter their current or past occupation and find a list of Career Matches, they can select “Narrow Your Results.” From there, they can set their work preferences by checking off characteristics they are not interested in. mySkills myFuture then excludes careers that typically involve those items from the users’ Career Matches list. This feature is helpful for those who are sure they don’t want to explore careers that frequently involve certain activities.
Visit www.mySkillsmyFuture.org to learn about transferable skills and compare skills across careers; explore new career options based on previous skills and experience; find training, certifications, licenses, and apprenticeship opportunities; and view and apply for jobs by ZIP code or local area. mySkills myFuture is a CareerOneStop website, sponsored by the U. S. Department of Labor Education and Training Administration. See more career information and applications at www.CareerOneStop.org.
