NCKU Completed Sheng-Li Road Construction

TAINAN, Taiwan--()--The construction of Sheng-Li Road, which began in July, 2010 and took more than 5 months at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, has replaced the dark underground passage of Cheng-Kung Campus with bright ground passage and open plaza for student clubs to organize activities and street artists to perform.

The construction aims to improve the passage of pedestrians and vehicles between the two major campuses of NCKU by closing down the old underground passage to open up the open east-west crossing.

The ground structures in the underground passage have been removed for pipeline use, and in the future, if Cheng-Kung Campus or Kuang-Fu Campus needs to install additional optical network or high voltage cable, they may use the open space for passage without excavation.

In addition, because the underground water level of the region is higher, the underground water in the underground passage can be led to the storage tank to supplement Cheng Kung Lake or to water plants in the region, thus reducing the use of running water to nourish plants and contributing to water conservation.

The construction of Sheng-Li Road was one of the main missions of Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, the former President of National Cheng Kung University, and he was pleased that it was completed before he leaves his post.
