TAINAN, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, the former President of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), is recruited by National Quemoy University (NQU), Kinmen, Taiwan, as Distinguished Chair Professor.
Accompanied by Kinmen County Magistrate Wo-Shi Li, NQU President Chin-Cheng Lee personally delivered the letter of appointment to Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai.
President Chin-Cheng Lee believed that the triangular academic alliance between National Cheng Kung University, National Quemoy University and Xiamen University requires the knowledge, experience and vision of Academician Lai to grow and develop.
Upon receiving his letter of appointment, Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai expressed his gratitude toward President Chin-Cheng Lee and promised to fully support the development of National Quemoy University.
In addition, Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, who has promoted the cooperation between NCKU College of Medicine, NCKU Hospital and Kinmen County Government, reminded Magistrate Wo-Shi Li that the most important key to the success of NCKU Kinmen Branch is the recruitment of teachers.
Academician Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, a world-renowned molecular virologist, became the President of National Cheng Kung University on February 1st, 2007. He received his master degree from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, and doctoral degree in Molecular Biology from the University of California at Berkeley, United States.
Dr. Lai has been regarded as a pioneer and a leading investigator in the coronavirus and HDV research in the world, having made numerous seminal contributions to the understanding of the molecular biology and pathogenesis of the coronavirus, which causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) among other diseases, and is an author of many textbook chapters on coronavirus.
