WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Daily Caller announced today it has hired blogging pioneer Mickey Kaus. A longtime journalist, Kaus has held prominent positions at a number of publications, including Slate, The New Republic, Washington Monthly, and most recently Newsweek. He is the author of The End of Equality. In 2010, Kaus was a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate in California.
Kaus is the founder of Kausfiles, one of the first political blogs, which will now be hosted by The Daily Caller. In 2005 Kausfiles received an Online Media Association award in "special recognition" of its contributions to web journalism. Kaus was also the co-founder of the long-running "Conventional Wisdom Watch" at Newsweek. He will join Daily Caller veteran Jim Treacher, author of the site’s Daily Trawler.
“Mickey Kaus has helped define political writing online,” said DC editor-in-chief Tucker Carlson. “He’s also one of the funniest people blogging in English. Even when I disagree with him – which is regularly – I can’t stop reading. We’re thrilled to have him.”
Asked for comment on his move to The Daily Caller, Mr. Kaus said, “The Daily Caller is serious but with a sense of perspective. They cover whatever the day's fuss is about but they obviously appreciate the fun of politics. It's not a grim chase after search engine-driven Web hits. I'm proud to join them. I've dealt with some of their reporters and found them to be both knowledgeable and honest, with no partisan axes to grind. They have open minds. And, of course, great barbeque."
Founded by Tucker Carlson, a 20-year veteran journalist, and Neil Patel, former chief policy advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney, The Daily Caller is a 24-hour news publication providing its audience with original reporting, thought-provoking commentary, and breaking news.
