Chicago Public School Students Weather Storm, Learn Math Using DimensionU

Tabula Digita Gives More Than 409,000 Students Free Access To DimensionU Educational Video Games So Learning Can Continue Despite School Closures

NEW YORK--()--Snowmageddon 2011 has brought much of Chicago’s business to a standstill…but not the business of learning. For the next several days, Tabula Digita, the leading developer of immersive educational video games for K-12 students, is offering free access to its DimensionU Games to all 409,000 students in Chicago Public Schools (CPS), at the request of the district. From elementary school pupils to high school seniors, children can use the virtual, multiplayer videogames with or against each other, thereby practicing and improving upon their mathematics and literacy skills while home-bound during this extraordinary weather event.

New players simply go to www.DimensionU.com, click the sign-up link on the top right of the Web page, complete the registration form and install the software. For assistance, players can e-mail support@tabuladigita.com, call 888-9-TABULA (888-982-2852) or visit www.DimensionU.com/support.

“The Chicago Public Schools system recognizes and thanks Tabula Digita for their commitment to corporate citizenship,” said Meghan Tallent-Bennis, CPS director of curriculum strategy, Office of Teaching and Learning. “By providing access to their online instructional materials they are helping to ensure that student learning continues despite the impact of our recent blizzard.”

Used in the Chicago Public Schools’ system since 2007, the gaming software has improved academic results for students year after year. In all, DimensionU Games embed more than 400 math and literacy skills in a multitude of 3-D, interactive formats.

The DimensionU math games align to standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and all mathematics and literacy content is aligned to standards for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Available on both Windows and Macintosh platforms, the educational video games drive students to review, practice and ultimately master mathematics and literacy lessons previously introduced and discussed in class. All games in the DimensionU system provide automatic progress tracking of student results so teachers can quickly augment their instruction to deepen students’ comprehension of specific concepts whenever necessary.

“As a partner of Chicago Public Schools, Tabula Digita is pleased to extend the license for the DimensionU Learning System to the more than 409,000 CPS students – free of charge – during this time of extreme weather. We designed this software based on the needs of students, and we believe they will enjoy using DimensionU and become more excited about learning,” said Ntiedo Etuk, founder & CEO of Tabula Digita.

“We are excited to build upon our relationship with Tabula Digita. Because of our past use and the company’s proven responsiveness and support capabilities, we’re comfortable that they are able to offer access to their engaging content to students throughout the district. This allows us to offer students a unique yet relevant opportunity to continue their learning,” added John F. Loehr, Ph.D., acting science director, Office of Teaching & Learning – Science.

Additionally, Chicago Public School students can also enroll free of charge in Tabula Digita’s U Games National Scholarship Tournament. The virtual competition, co-sponsored by Intel and in partnership with Dell, began in November and runs through May 2011. Players can join the competition at any time during the six-month event even if they did not participate in an earlier round by going to www.dimensionu.com/UGames.
