Key Highlights
In Germany, the mining and processing industries are dependent on exports and therefore also on consumption trends in the international markets. When the global economy declined in 2008 and international demand for minerals and processed metals decreased, the German mining industry saw a decline in both the volume of minerals produced, and their value. Throughout the review period, total production in the German mining industry declined, registering a CARC of -2.4%. During the review period, production value grew, although this registered a decline of 11.9% in 2009 when compared to figures in 2008. The increase in value for the whole period can be attributed to the increase in demand at this time in international markets.
