Where are the Jobs? Monster Answers by Identifying the Hottest Occupations for Job Seekers

Sales and IT occupations show largest volume of job openings; management and healthcare also see solid volume in available opportunities

MAYNARD, Mass.--()--Monster.com®, the leading job matching engine and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), identified the hottest occupations where hiring has picked up recently. While a hiring pick-up in some occupational categories has remained typical for this time of the year, the scale of growth has shown a definite improvement, suggesting far more job opportunities compared to the Nov 09 – Jan 10 period, an encouraging sign for all job seekers.

The five occupational categories that have seen the largest gains in volume of job postings for the past 90 days are:

1. Sales and Sales-related occupations, specifically:

  • Retail Salespersons
  • First-Line Supervisors/Managers of Retail Sales Workers
  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Technical and Scientific Products
  • Sales Agents for Financial Services
  • Insurance Sales Agents

2. IT-related occupations (infrastructure, web and software), specifically:

  • Web Developers
  • Computer Systems Analysts
  • Computer Support Specialists
  • Computer Software Engineers, Applications
  • Network and Computer Systems Administrators

3. Healthcare Practitioners/Technicians, specifically:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Physical Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Speech-Language Pathologists
  • Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurses

4. Office and Administrative Support, specifically:

  • Customer Service Representatives
  • Executive Secretaries and Administrative Assistant
  • First-Line Supervisors/Managers of Office and Administrative Support Workers
  • Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks
  • Medical Secretaries

5. Management Occupations, specifically:

  • Marketing Managers
  • Medical and Health Services Managers
  • Sales Managers
  • General and Operations Managers
  • Financial Managers, Branch or Department

“As companies start to slowly emerge from the economic downturn, they are naturally looking to invest in the expansion of their business again – by pumping up their sales team, improving their previously-neglected IT infrastructure and expanding their management teams, ” commented Jesse Harriott, Senior Vice President and Chief Knowledge Officer for Monster Worldwide. “This is a positive indicator for job seekers looking to make a move this year.”

Earlier this month, Monster reported on the hot markets for jobs ranked on the relative abundance of job openings for the given local workforce, identifying Washington D.C., San Francisco and Boston as the top markets with more jobs available per person in the market.
