AmeriChoice Public Sector Health Plan in New York Is Now UnitedHealthcare Community Plan

Name change to help UnitedHealthcare strengthen its care provider networks and enhance member service

NEW YORK--()--AmeriChoice by UnitedHealthcare, serving 266,000 Medicaid health plan members in the state of New York, has changed its name to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan.

The name change, effective Jan. 1, unifies AmeriChoice with other Medicaid health plans under the UnitedHealthcare banner. By aligning its health benefit companies under a common brand, UnitedHealth Group looks to continue to strengthen its care provider networks and improve service to its members.

“We are building on the UnitedHealthcare brand and its recognition in the marketplace to make health care simpler and more effective for all those we serve, especially our members and the state of New York,” said Pat Celli, president, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of New York. “The change to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan allows us to speak with one voice to our members, care providers, employers and other constituents.”

Over the next 12 months the company, which will continue to be based in New York, will complete its transition to the new name. UnitedHealthcare Community Plan has notified members of the change and has issued new member identification cards. The change will not affect current relationships with the network of physicians and other health care providers who participate in the health plan.

“Members and care providers count on us to provide access to the same high-quality services in 2011 and beyond,” added Celli. “We will continue our tradition of developing innovative health care solutions while coordinating the compassionate care our members deserve.”

Members may contact the health plan by using the number on their ID card or by calling (800) 493-4647. A new UnitedHealthcare Community Plan web site, providing enhanced member and care provider portals for government-sponsored health care plans, will be available early this year. The new site will be found at the same location as the current site – www.UHCCommunityPlan.com.
