SEATTLE--()--The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has named Robert C. Comfort as its new Honorary Consul for the Seattle area. Mr. Comfort, who serves as chief tax officer at Amazon.com, will assume his duties immediately. He has a longstanding relationship with Luxembourg, which hosts Amazon.com’s European Headquarters.

His appointment was announced in conjunction with an official visit by the Luxembourg Minister of Health Mars di Bartolomeo, who was in Seattle for an overview of the area’s innovative capacity in health care technology. Mr. di Bartolomeo was briefed on the innovative medical training concepts of the Seattle Science Foundation, the continuous Performance Improvement initiative of Seattle Children’s Hospital and the leading edge research in biogenetics at Seattle’s Institute for Systems Biology.

The ISB, under the leadership of Dr. Lee Hood and Dr. David Galas, is engaged in a five-year collaborative research effort with the Luxembourg Institute of System Biomedicine and the National Center for Health Research of Luxembourg to promote diagnostics technology based on organ-specific genomic and proteomic mapping.

Minister di Bartolomeo joined Luxembourg’s Ambassador to the US, Jean-Paul Senninger, and Consul General Georges Schmit in welcoming Mr. Comfort as a strong addition to the diplomatic team of Luxembourg in the Western United States. The new Honorary Consul will contribute to the further strengthening of economic ties between Luxembourg and the State of Washington, he noted.
