MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network with more than 90 million members globally, today announced the appointment of Michael Moritz to its board of directors. Previously, Moritz served on the boards of directors at Flextronics, Yahoo!, PayPal and Google.
“We are very pleased to be adding Mike’s perspective and depth of experience to our board,” said Jeff Weiner, CEO of LinkedIn. “Mike brings an impressive range of knowledge and expertise which will be invaluable to the company as we work to continue to grow our business around the world.”
For the last 25 years, Moritz has been a Managing Member at Sequoia Capital, a firm which has helped founders form and build many successful companies, including Apple, Cisco, Network Appliance and YouTube. He graduated with an M.A. in history from the University of Oxford.
Moritz has replaced Mark Kvamme who has stepped down from LinkedIn’s board. Kvamme has served on the board since 2003, when Sequoia Capital became LinkedIn’s first outside investor, and has left to become director of the Ohio Department of Development, where he will focus on driving Ohio’s economic growth. He was appointed to this role by incoming governor John Kasich.
“As one of the founding investors in LinkedIn, Mark’s vision, passion and insight helped fuel the company long before others had recognized the full potential of our platform,” added Weiner. “While he will be greatly missed as a board member, we wish him all the best as he transitions into his new role in government.”
In addition to Moritz and Weiner, the LinkedIn board consists of A. George “Skip” Battle, Reid Hoffman, Leslie Kilgore, Stan Meresman and David Sze.
