TAINAN, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--College of Planning and Design at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, winning numerous national and international design competition awards, including one gold award, one silver award and two bronze awards at 2010 Young Designers’ Exhibition (YODEX) and five awards at iF International Forum Design GmbH, Germany, has organized an achievement exhibition.
“Colleges of planning and design, medicine, engineering and liberal arts are indispensable for a university. What distinguishes College of Planning and Design from other colleges is that it must integrate technology and culture and understand the relationship between people in order to cultivate excellent students,” said Senior Executive Vice-President Da-Hsuan Feng in his opening address.
Vice-President Da-Hsuan Feng also mentioned, “NCKU College of Planning and Design is one of the best in Taiwan and in the world. We can see from the students’ works that they embody technological structures as well as cultural background and we are very proud.”
Dean Feng-Tyan Lin of NCKU College of Planning and Design expressed, “Under the leadership of President Michael Ming-Chiao Lai, College of Planning and Design values knowledge, creativity and achievements with high contributions. Even though the faculty scale in the college is small, in recent years, the number of papers and the number of papers cited in SCI, SSCI and A&HCI have ranked 2nd place globally among design departments.”
Dean Feng-Tyan Lin also said, “In the past, the College of Planning and Design has given people the impression that it is strong in theory but lacking in practice, but the achievements in 2010 have presented a different image. In 2010, the Department of Architecture, Department of Urban Planning, Department of Industrial Design and Institute of Creative Industry Design have all made outstanding performance, receiving numerous national and international design contest awards.”
For example, students from the Department of Architecture have participated in “Alishan 100 Years” student competition, competed with more than 300 contestants and 105 works and won the first prize with the concept of energy saving and carbon reduction of their work entitled “Log100 (Co2) Forestry Memorial Park.”
In addition, among the five winners of the New Talent Award and the sixteen recipients of the excellence awards of the New Talent Award, students from Department of Architecture have also received top three prizes and four excellence awards of New Talent Award of the 2010 National Golden Award for Architecture, the most authoritative national award that every architect regards as the highest honor, thus becoming the biggest winner of the contest.
In the Department of Industrial Design, the curvy scissors created by students Sheng-Hong Li and You-Lin Chen have received International Forum Design Hannover-Universal Design Award, the Oscar in the design industry, and have also passed the patent application, and the techniques will be transferred to factories for production in the future.
The exhibition of the achievements of NCKU College of Planning and Design, held from 9am to 5pm, January 17th to 20th, in the first floor lobby of Department of Urban Planning, is displaying five works and dozens of posters.
