SiAT and CSAC Unveil Latest Corrosion Protection Data for Joint CNT-Coated Aluminum Foil Product

DETROIT--()--SiAT, a leading Taiwanese manufacturer of advanced nanomaterials for batteries, and CSAC, the largest Taiwanese aluminum producer, revealed the latest test results for their joint CNT-coated aluminum foil (CCAF) during a speaker session at the Battery Show Detroit on October 8.

Launched in February, the CCAF is designed to meet the rising demand for faster charging and longer lifespans in lithium-ion, sodium-ion batteries, and supercapacitors. The carbon nanotube (CNT) coating enhances conductivity and reduces interface contact resistance, vital for high-rate discharge batteries. Incorporating CCAF can boosts LFP battery energy density from 625Wh/L to 700Wh/L, extending battery cycle life. Sodium battery cycle life can also be improved by 20% with CCAF.

The CCAF foil also tackles the issue of electrolyte corrosion, particularly with newer LiFSI additives in next-gen batteries. Data from Electrochemical Corrosion CV and SEM analyses show the CNT coating’s protective effect against LiFSI electrolyte corrosion, further prolonging battery life.

SiAT’s CCAF uses CSAC’s aluminum foil for batteries (model CSM2403), produced in Taiwan. CSAC is one of the few manufacturers with end-to-end production capabilities, from aluminum ingot to finished foil. This ensures CCAF complies with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and is exempt from US/Canada/Europe tariffs on batteries and aluminum imported from China.

The joint CCAF product from SiAT and CSAC has attracted strong interest and numerous sample requests from battery and electric vehicle vendors at the Battery Show Detroit.

About CSAC

CSAC (C.S. Aluminum Corporation), a subsidiary of CSC (TWSE:2002), is the largest Taiwan manufacturer of rolled aluminum products with annual capacity of 174,000 tonnes.

CSAC produces high quality aluminum and zinc cast products such as plates, rolls, sheets, foil and alloy ingots. They are widely applied in the transportation, mechanical, building material, food container, goods and consumer electronics industries.

About SiAT

SiAT (Sino Applied Technology) is a Taiwan manufacturer of advanced nanomaterials for next-generation batteries.

Established in 2018, SiAT’s mission is to accelerate green transition by increasing battery performance through its innovative nanomaterials. SiAT owns several global patents in nanomaterial production. SiAT is scaling its technology at its manufacturing facility in Taiwan, and now offers innovative products including silicon anode, CNT conductive paste, LMPZD paste, CNT-coated aluminum foil and CSAC aluminum foil.
