McAfee Sets New Standard for Network IPS Performance
New McAfee Network Security Platform is Industry’s Highest Throughput IPS on a Single Appliance
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--McAfee today announced the release of its McAfee Network Security Platform NS-series, a new network intrusion prevention system (IPS) appliance based on Intel technology. The McAfee NS-series sets a new standard in high performance IPS with throughput of up to 40 Gbps, increased scalability and more capacity to run next generation IPS services.
“For IPS providers that offer such functionality, they stand to capture those additional security budget dollars.”
The NS-series is McAfee’s first IPS hardware platform based on Intel technology and is more compact than previous appliances. Intel engineers worked side-by-side with McAfee engineers to develop a hardware platform that maximizes the efficiency and amplifies the performance of the new hardware design. In addition, this new series has some of the greatest port density in the industry which provides more deployment flexibility. The McAfee Network Security Platform with higher scalability simplifies customer deployment challenges and allows them to more easily support growing network demands.
“Although the raw throughput of the new McAfee NS-series is impressive by any measure, the real story is the full next generation IPS services at those throughputs,” said Pat Calhoun, senior vice president and general manager of network security at McAfee. “The IPS industry has been talking about next generation IPS functionality for several years now, but when scalability tests are run, these services are almost always disabled, sacrificing security to boost throughput. These next generation IPS services, such as application visibility, situational and behavioral analysis, are needed to address today’s advanced threats.”
The additional power in the McAfee NS-series not only raises the overall IPS throughput standard in the market, it solidifies a more realistic way to measure true IPS scalability which McAfee has been supporting from the beginning. The McAfee NS-series delivers 40 Gbps of performance with all of the NGIPS services running. With continued demand from organizations for more bandwidth, and the rapid adoption of 10 GigE and 40 GigE, greater IPS scalability in the data center is a must.
“Security buyers seek more application visibility, more situational or context awareness of network interactions, and greater control over the content coming into and out of their organizations,” according to Eric Ahlm, research director at Gartner in a recent report*. “For IPS providers that offer such functionality, they stand to capture those additional security budget dollars.”
