Bakersfield Community Theatre – Enriching a California Legacy

Securing a New Home, 1020 19th Street

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--()--Bakersfield Community Theatre (BCT), the oldest continuously operating theatre company in California, is excited to announce the launch of their “A Legacy Beyond” fundraising campaign for a New Home and a Brighter Future. This new initiative aims to raise $2.5 million to secure and renovate a modern facility – furthering BCT’s legacy of artistic excellence and community engagement. This endeavor will be strategically supported by the EPiC company to ensure that BCT’s legacy continues.

“Since our founding in 1927, BCT has always been more than just a stage for performances,” shared BCT Executive Director Jan Hefner. “It’s a space for self-discovery and connection through the arts. With the support of the EPiC company, where culture is magnified, we are ensuring our legacy thrives through expanded opportunities, modern facilities, and welcoming environments as we join Bakersfield’s flourishing Eastchester community.”

Campaign funds are needed to support:

  • Acquisition & Renovation: secure a larger facility and enable the upgrades needed to create an innovative, fully accessible performing arts space;
  • Program Expansion: BCT will offer more workshops, educational programs, and free youth programs – inviting more people than ever to participate;
  • Community Impact: continuing our focus on inclusivity and collaboration that will help cultivate the next generation of artists, volunteers, and patrons.

Help us Carry the Legacy Forward

Everyone has a chance to become part of BCT’s enduring story, with accessible options from community-driven efforts, sponsorships, and naming rights. Upcoming events include a community kick-off party, donor tours of the future facility, and opportunities to engage with the creative teams guiding this transformation.

“We invite people to think about the future and all the possibilities that go beyond just a physical space,” adds Jan. “With every gift – large or small – we extend BCT’s legacy, ensuring it continues to uplift and inspire for decades to come.”
