Connie Finishes Year Strong with Record Engagement Among Providers and Healthcare Systems, New Tools Driving Better Patient Care

Connecticut’s designated health information exchange expanded connectivity across the state and introduced new services that support patient care delivery in 2024

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.--()--Connie, the state-designated health information exchange for Connecticut, closed out 2024 with significant momentum and growth among its product and service offerings to providers as well as its connectivity with healthcare organizations and practices across state.

“It’s been a great year for demonstrating our tremendous impact on care delivery and clinical outcomes thanks to the more than 3,000 provider locations that exchange information through Connie,” said Jenn Searls, executive director for Connie. “We’re proud to serve as the connective tissue between providers and facilities statewide to ensure the people of Connecticut get the care they deserve when they need it. But our work is also focused on improving the workflows of the clinicians providing this care, and we’ve had great success rolling out new tools that support their decision making capabilities on the front lines of care.”

Notable advancements in 2024 included:

  • In a 12-month period ending in September 2024, Connie saw 1,078 new locations onboard its platform.
  • Connie increased the number of skilled nursing facilities connected to and participating in the HIE by 88%. The platform also saw its number of ambulatory medical centers grow by 13%.
  • From January to October, the number of repeat users on Connie’s website portal or InContext app increased by more than 200%.
  • On average, Connie supported approximately 1.5 million weekly inbound clinical data documents and results and delivered more than 412,000 weekly patient encounters.
  • Connie also unveiled a significant upgrade in its ability to deliver timely and accurate encounter notifications to users with the launch of the Population Explorer tool. Augmented by data from Connie’s network and the CRISP Event Notification Delivery (CEND) solution that provides users with real-time alerts about patients’ hospital encounters, Population Explorer consolidates a patient's data, including admission/discharge/transfer (ADT) alerts, into a single encounter, allowing providers and healthcare staff to track patients through their healthcare journey and see their latest activity.

These outcomes highlight Connie’s successful progress in serving its mission to provide health information technology services that empower consumers to make effective healthcare decisions and promote patient-centered care. Through expanded participation across the state, Connie has improved the quality, safety, and value of healthcare, while reducing the waste and duplication of services. The impact seen in 2024 sets the stage for Connie to advance its vision of supporting clinical decision-making, keeping patient medical health information confidential and secure, and advancing the state’s public health goals.

“I’ve been so impressed overall with the growth of Connie since I began using it. I really appreciate how it strives to solve many intractable problems in healthcare. As a family physician and an owner of a small practice, I know that up-to-date information is one of the main keys to taking good care of our patients,” shared Dr. Frank Crociata, member of Connie’s Clinical Advisory Council. “As a member of the CAC, I’ve been privy to seeing how, as a group, we are trying to make Connie as useful a platform as possible to make life easier for healthcare providers and to improve quality of care.”
