The Record Co. Launches $1M AMPLIFY BOSTON Campaign to Preserve Local Music Scene

Loss of rehearsal and recording spaces threatens future of Hub musicians

BOSTON--()--The Record Co. (TRC), a not-for-profit community space serving over 4,000 artists from over 130 Massachusetts towns, launched its AMPLIFY BOSTON campaign today. This $1,000,000 fundraising initiative is designed to preserve Boston’s musical legacy by providing affordable access to rehearsal rooms and recording studios.

Commercial development in Boston over the last decade has resulted in the closure of many of the venues, rehearsal studios, and other spaces that emerging artists need to thrive. TRC is stepping up to amplify the voices that make Boston unique and to ensure that local artists are not silenced. TRC currently has two locations (960 Massachusetts Ave, Boston & 55 Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester) that serve as hubs for the city’s vibrant and diverse musical community. These spaces provide affordable rehearsal and recording space that empowers artists to practice their craft, create professional-quality demos, and otherwise grow as artists. AMPLIFY BOSTON was created to save existing music spaces and make sure they are available to all musicians in the Boston area.

"The Record Co. has been a cornerstone in supporting Boston's dynamic music scene," says Bobby Boyd, Executive Director of The Record Co. "This campaign builds on our commitment to provide artists with the resources they need to create, collaborate, and contribute to our city's cultural richness."

Since its founding in 2010, TRC has continually evolved to meet the needs of Boston's music community. In 2020, a successful capital campaign allowed TRC to significantly expand its original location, resulting in 20 bookable rooms for recording and rehearsal. This expansion marked a pivotal moment in TRC's ability to serve local artists.

"Our growth over the past few years demonstrates TRC's vital role in Boston's music ecosystem," Boyd explains. "With AMPLIFY BOSTON, we're looking to build on that momentum and create long-term solutions for our city's artists. A city’s musical community can’t survive without places to practice and perform. We believe that Boston’s musical legacy is unique both for its incredible diversity and its long lineage. It’s a legacy worth saving, and it starts with giving musicians places to hone their craft. Donors will see immediate impacts from their contributions, which will be used to expand and upgrade physical facilities and equipment, ensure affordable rehearsal and recording costs for local artists, and preserve Boston’s vibrant musical culture.”
