Galway Sustainable Capital Expands Its Senior Team

WASHINGTON--()--Galway Sustainable Capital – a specialty finance company – is ramping up its staff capacity on the operational, financial, and legal fronts, taking advantage of an influx of new capital.

Recent investments from a fund managed by Macquarie Asset Management and Aware Super have increased Galway’s assets under management and ability to expand its reach and impact. To leverage this capital more effectively, Galway has added talent to support and develop Galway and its portfolio.

Two Vice Presidents of Asset Management have joined Galway. They will serve as operating partners to the entrepreneurs and project sponsors that Galway finances, providing counsel and services to enhance growth and outcomes.

Derek Porter is an energy industry veteran with more than 30 years of operational, commercial, asset management, financial, M&A, and project development experience. His energy transition background includes VP- and C-level roles in wind, solar, run-of-the-river hydroelectric, biomass, biogas, geothermal and waste-to-energy (gasification), grid optimization, battery storage, energy efficiency, advanced metering, and greenhouse gas offsets and carbon management.

Steve Hane has spent over three decades in C- and VP-level roles in all stages of venture development and operation, including inception, financing, scale, exit, and strategic partnerships globally. His background spans sustainable technologies such as solar PV cells, intelligent LED systems, hydrogen storage, high-speed and IoT networking, AI, and advanced materials. He has advised CEOs of early-stage ventures and was a founding member of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association.

Galway has also expanded its corporate team:

Jennifer Simpson was appointed Chief Operating Officer, focused on refining investment management, streamlining functional integration, and supporting Galway’s continued growth. Jennifer has 25 years of experience in private equity, credit, and venture firms, including investing in industrial companies at The Gladstone Companies. She has also been an executive for two early-stage companies and an environmentally-focused foundation and was founding Executive Director of the Aspen Institute’s Finance Leaders Fellowship.

Kara Parmelee was named Galway’s General Counsel, responsible for leading legal and compliance affairs. She joined Galway from the law firm Paul Hastings, LLP, where she represented clients in complex transactions in the FinTech market. She has extensive experience managing business and legal initiatives and financial operations and has worked throughout her career to provide capital and financing solutions to support the growth of midsize companies in diverse industries.

Jennifer von Bismarck, Galway CEO and co-founder, commented: “Galway’s mission is urgent, and we need world-class talent to help us, and our partners, meet our shared goals. High-caliber individuals like Derek, Steve, Jennifer, and Kara – who bring not only stellar backgrounds and sophisticated experience, but also passion for our work – will help Galway, our investors, and our portfolio companies all succeed.”
