Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Adds Washington County Memorial Hospital to Its Medicare Advantage Provider Network

Anthem and Washington County Memorial Hospital collaborate to increase access to high-quality healthcare

ST. LOUIS--()--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri (Anthem) is committed to increasing consumer access to high-quality, affordable healthcare. As part of this commitment, Anthem and Washington County Memorial Hospital (WCMH) announced today that Anthem will be adding WCMH to its preferred list of care providers for its Medicare Advantage plans. Beginning January 1, 2019, WCMH’s care providers will be considered in-network for these health plans, resulting in lower out-of-pocket costs for consumers compared to seeing a care provider outside of Anthem’s network.

“Anthem leverages our understanding of the dynamic needs of Medicare-eligible individuals to give them the products and services that help them lead healthier lives,” said David McNichols, President of Anthem’s Medicare Central Region. “The addition of Washington County Memorial Hospital to our network exemplifies our goal of making healthcare simpler for consumers because it will be easier for Missouri residents enrolled in our Medicare Advantage plans to receive care services in their community.”

Washington County Memorial Hospital is a critical access facility that provides a wide range of medical services, from cardiology to orthopedics to pulmonology, to residents of Washington County and the surrounding area. WCMH is Stroke Level III Accredited and Sleep Study Accredited. It also has a 64-Slice CT Scanner and new MRI equipment. In addition, WCMH has four Rural Health Clinics and a Swingbed Program, an extended hospital stay service for patients no longer needing acute inpatient hospital care, yet may not be well or strong enough to return home immediately. WCMH is dedicated to providing personable care that helps consumers improve their health and well-being.

Anthem currently offers a number of health plans that meet the needs of individuals eligible for Medicare. These plans are Anthem MediBlue Plus (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Dual Advantage (HMO SNP), Anthem MediBlue Access (PPO), and Anthem MediBlue Access Basic (PPO).

Individuals who are interested in joining one of these health plans can enroll during this year’s Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). The AEP began October 15, 2018, and continues through December 7, 2018 and gives consumers enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B the opportunity to sign up for Anthem’s 2019 Medicare Advantage plans.
