OneMain Financial and Main Street America Announce “Made on Main Street”

Program Will Support Community Transformation Projects

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--()--OneMain Financial and Main Street America announced today the launch of “Made on Main Street,” a new program that will provide Community Action Grants for innovative, community transformation projects across the country. Six $25,000 grants will be awarded throughout 2018 and are open to Main Street America’s members in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, and Washington. Funded projects may include downtown clean up days, public art displays, and community gardens, among others.

OneMain Financial, America’s premier consumer finance company, has been offering responsible and transparent personal loan products for over 100 years. With over 1,600 locations in 44 states, OneMain Financial is deeply committed to the communities it serves. Main Street America, a program of the National Main Street Center, is a network of 1,000+ local affiliate organizations and 43 state, city, and county-level Main Street Coordinating Programs. It supports revitalization of small towns, mid-sized communities, and urban commercial districts. The like-minded belief of both organizations in the importance of communities led to this exciting initiative.

“OneMain has been an integral part of the communities we serve throughout our over 100-year history, and we are thrilled to partner with Main Street America on such a positive and impactful initiative,” said President & CEO Jay Levine. “We know that individuals thrive when communities thrive, and bringing life back to neglected areas is an opportunity to celebrate the heart of these cities and towns, and their residents.”

“We are very grateful to OneMain for this funding, and believe that the ‘Made on Main Street’ partnership is a great way to help our member organizations make an immediate difference in their communities,” said Patrice Frey, President and CEO of the National Main Street Center. “These projects not only improve our downtowns, but remind us that our community spaces can and should be a source of pride.”

In addition to the grants, OneMain will also sponsor an event in each of the grant-awarded communities to bring people together for an afternoon of food, fun, and games that celebrate the upcoming transformations.

The first recipient of a Made on Main Street Grant is the community of Goldsboro, North Carolina, which will use its funding to create a permanent public mural and six-crosswalk murals. A community celebration is planned there for April 21st.

Applications for the remaining grants will be accepted until April 30th, and recipients will be announced on May 15th.
