Qumu Announces the Release of Software-Based iPTV

Qumu iPTV allows organizations to leverage existing infrastructure, deploy television streams on any device

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Qumu (NASDAQ: QUMU), the leading provider of best-in-class video technology for the enterprise, announced the release of a new software-based iPTV solution called Qumu iPTV. Built on the company’s market-leading video platform, Qumu iPTV allows organizations to deliver a rich end-user iPTV experience to any computer, VDI client, television, large format display, mobile device, connected web client, or commodity compute stick from manufacturers like Intel and Lenovo.

“For the last decade, traditional hardware-based iPTV systems have been struggling to meet the need for streaming television anytime and anywhere within the enterprise,” said Vern Hanzlik, President, and CEO of Qumu. “Qumu iPTV is a software-only solution that can now stream iPTV to any device regardless of configuration or location, with no additional hardware required.”

The software-based Qumu iPTV platform uses real-time server technology to instantly update connected clients without the use of set top boxes, leveraging commodity hardware and requiring only a browser on the endpoint. This allows organizations to reduce total cost of ownership, and experience superior results over existing legacy iPTV technology from other vendors. Qumu iPTV also allows administrators to control clients with common off-the-shelf mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads and Android phones, eliminating the need for proprietary remote controls.

In addition to a significantly lower total cost of ownership, Qumu iPTV offers granular administration of all content, as well as seamless integration into Qumu’s advanced technology stack—which can provide administrators with real-time analytics and reporting on all video consumption. Qumu iPTV also supports video on demand (VOD), live streams, and slides with mixed media. And all video is closed-caption compatible.

“Our new solution enables global organizations to push iPTV to places that historically could not access feeds,” noted Chance Mason, Qumu’s Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “Now any Qumu customer can simply extend their current enterprise video platform, leverage their existing infrastructure, and potentially save millions of dollars per year.”
