KEARNEY, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SCORR Marketing, a global health science marketing and communications firm, has announced that a new Patient Engagement Survey Report is available for free download. The survey, conducted in partnership with Applied Clinical Trials, was undertaken to shed light on how life science companies can improve patient engagement initiatives and, ultimately, patient participation and retention in clinical trials. It includes responses from ACT subscribers working at pharmaceutical and biotech companies, contract research organizations (CROs), research sites and academic institutions.
“It was somewhat surprising to see the role of technology in patient engagement initiatives,” said Anne-Marie Hess, senior strategic advisor at SCORR. “Although a variety of technologies support patient engagement, in-person contact and then phone contact were the most effective ways to engage patients. In fact, 46 percent of respondents to the survey reported that study participants are not required to have a technological device (such as a smartphone or a wearable device) of any kind.”
Additionally, among other findings, the report discovered that respondents were largely unsure if the use of technology, such as mHealth wearables and companion apps, provide a positive return on investment. The study also found that the older the patients, the easier they are to engage.
“Lack of budget and resources were cited by 43 percent of respondents as the reasons organizations aren’t currently pursuing patient engagement initiatives, while 17 percent indicated that there is no significant challenge to implementing these initiatives,” said Lisa Henderson, group content director of Applied Clinical Trials. “Having a sufficient budget was also cited as the biggest factor that will affect future patient engagement activities.”
