New Book A SECOND CHANCE by Catherine Hoke of Defy Ventures Shows How Each of Us Can Be Transformed When Given a Second Chance

What if you were only known for the worst thing you’ve ever done?

BOULDER, Colo.--()--Mass incarceration is being called the civil rights issue of our time. Though the U.S. makes up only 5 percent of the world’s population, it is home to 25 percent of the world’s prison population.1 This legacy of mass incarceration is handed down from one generation to the next: 70 percent of children with an incarcerated parent will follow in their footsteps.2

A SECOND CHANCE (February 27, 2018; The Domino Project) by Catherine Hoke, is a discovery of human resilience, courage, and what she calls “America’s most overlooked talent pool.” A combination of forgiveness, hope, and entrepreneurship give both the incarcerated and people released from prison a second chance at becoming healthy, happy, contributing members of society. Cat asks us all to “step to the line,” find common ground, and build a more just and equitable world.

In this inspiring and deeply human book, Cat teaches us that we all need a second chance at some point. Her gripping story of redemption gives each of us permission to forgive ourselves for the mistakes we’ve made in the past and move forward more resilient and stronger than ever. She shares her personal story of her eye-opening experience of working in prisons, witnessing transformation, and responding to what she saw by founding a revolutionary organization to further her mission.

A SECOND CHANCE is about new beginnings, forgiveness, letting go of shame, and the power of possibility. This book demonstrates how to unlock the potential within the prison system, forging an entrepreneurial path to rehabilitation and fulfillment.

A SECOND CHANCE is a book not only for people in prison or policymakers but a book for all readers about transformation and believing in your potential to change your own life.
