GCT Semiconductor's 4G LTE IoT Chip Powers New AI Speaker Launched in South Korea

SAN JOSE, Calif. & SEOUL, South Korea--()--GCT® Semiconductor, a leading designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions; and Anapass, a leading display and multimedia SoC solution provider, today announced that GCT’s LTE IoT chip GDM7243V, integrated with Anapass’ mobile multimedia application processor, powers a new artificial intelligence (AI) speaker recently launched by South Korea’s major mobile operator. The portable device is the world’s first LTE-enabled AI speaker, therefore offering ultimate mobility.

GCT’s new IoT chip, GDM7243V, is optimized for mobile IoT applications such as this new LTE AI speaker. GDM7243V supports Category 4 FDD/TDD-LTE, and features quad cores/GPU for Android OS and multimedia features, making it ideal for 4G IoT applications.

“We’re excited to be part of another successful product launch and to be working in partnership with Anapass,” says Alex Sum, vice president of sales and marketing at GCT Semiconductor, Inc. “Our innovative LTE solutions are enabling us to pursue new opportunities such as the latest growing trend of wireless AI speakers. Both Amazon and Google have been very successful with their Amazon Echo and Google Home products in the US, however neither of these smart speakers include 4G LTE connectivity. We are happy to see that major operators are now seeing the value of adding 4G connectivity to enhance the user experience.”

“Our strategic collaboration with GCT continues to enable us to develop competitive and superior mobile application processors,” says John W. Bae, marketing director at Anapass. “With GCT we have leveraged our multimedia SoC technology know-how to pursue new opportunities in growing mobile markets, such as AI speakers. We look forward to continuing to expand and diversify our products and customers together.”
