Coalition for Integrity Honors U.S. Senator John McCain with 2017 Integrity Award, Parsons Corporation with Corporate Leadership Award

McCain’s Commitment to Fighting Corruption and Furthering Integrity and Transparency Applauded

WASHINGTON--()--Coalition for Integrity, a non-partisan, non-profit organization working to combat corruption and promote transparency in the United States and around the world, today announced that U.S. Senator John McCain is the recipient of the 2017 CFI Integrity Award for his steadfast support of laws that support transparency and foster more integrity and accountability in government. The award will be presented to Senator McCain on November 29 at CFI’s Integrity Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.

“Throughout his life and his public service, Senator McCain has exhibited straight talk, independent thinking, strong principles, incorruptible character and quiet courage. We thank him for modeling the integrity and trustworthiness all Americans--political leaders, business executives and every day citizens--must strive for to keep the institutions of our democracy and economy strong and respected at home and abroad,” said Alan Larson, Chair of Coalition for Integrity’s Board of Directors

“Senator McCain has been an unwavering defender of accountability, openness and integrity throughout his lifetime of public service. He champions unpopular positions if it means faithfulness to revered values and speaks out unabashedly when he believes America’s moral leadership on the world stage is undermined,” added Claudia Dumas, President and CEO of Coalition for Integrity.

Senator McCain has sponsored or co-sponsored laws to promote openness, including the McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform Act; the Earmark Transparency Act; the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act; the Lobbying Transparency and Accountability Act; and the Fair Accountability and Innovative Research Drug Pricing Act. Senator McCain co-sponsored the Sergei Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act of 2012 and the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act of 2016, crucial in the fight against kleptocracies. Most recently, he co-sponsored the Honest Ads Act, intended to prevent foreign interference in future elections and improve the transparency of online political advertisements.

Parsons Corporation is receiving the CFI Corporate Leadership Award for its dedication to ethical business standards, anti-corruption and compliance practices, and corporate social responsibility and citizenship. Integrity is one of the six core values upon which Parsons’ culture, brand, and business strategy are built.

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the 20th anniversary of the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions, both milestones in the fight to eliminate bribery in international business. Coalition for Integrity will recognize the OECD for its efforts to realize the Convention’s aspirations by advancing the adoption and enforcement of the Convention’s obligations by nations around the globe.

Coalition for Integrity is a non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization which works to promote integrity and combat corruption in government, business and the daily lives of people, both in the U.S. and internationally.
