SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nextdoor (nextdoor.com), the free and private social network for neighborhoods, today revealed custom lists of the best businesses in over 100,000 neighborhoods across the country with the launch of Neighborhood Favorites. Neighborhood Favorites is Nextdoor's new annual awards program that allows neighbors to recommend and recognize the most-loved businesses in and around their neighborhood.
Neighbors across the country have made over 17 million recommendations for their favorite local businesses on Nextdoor. Now, the best of those are being recognized as Neighborhood Favorites. For the first time, neighbors have their own unique Neighborhood Favorites list that captures the best local spots in their neighborhood. From bookstores to bakeries, Neighborhood Favorites celebrates the businesses neighbors love and helps them discover ones they haven't yet tried.
"The local businesses in my neighborhood bring so much character and spirit to our community," said Valerie Schornstein, a Nextdoor member in San Diego. "Our community would not be the same without them and I'm thrilled we now have a list that helps us discover and showcase the best of them."
Over 200,000 businesses across the country have won the award of Neighborhood Favorite in more than 30 categories, including restaurants, gyms, hair salons, bike shops, florists, and more.
"Nextdoor is the new 'word-of-mouth' and recommendations from neighbors are the lifeblood of our business," said Austin Boyce of Airco Service, Inc. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "Being named a Neighborhood Favorite is an honor and tells us we are doing things right. We are a service company, and having our customers tell us we are their 'favorite' is always our goal."
Today, neighbors in more than 160,000 neighborhoods use Nextdoor to get to know one another, exchange local advice and share recommendations. Recommendations for local businesses are one of the most popular topics on Nextdoor, accounting for more than 25 percent of all neighborhood conversations. Neighborhood Favorites now makes it even easier for neighbors to find, recommend, and support the best local businesses in their neighborhoods.
"The best businesses are the ones recommended by neighbors," said Nirav Tolia, Co-Founder and CEO of Nextdoor. "From the local coffee shop that knows your order to the dry cleaner who has your pick-up ready when you arrive, every neighbor has local businesses they love. Today, we're honored to recognize local businesses and celebrate the 2017 Neighborhood Favorites."
