KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EnerNex, a leading electric power research, engineering and consulting firm, is seeing an increase in grid modernization work and is currently involved in a number of leading utility engagements around the world, including projects in California, Louisiana, Hawaii and Saudi Arabia to name a few. In general, these projects assist clients in developing a grid modernization strategy necessary to support a more customer-centric utility future.

Neil Placer joins EnerNex as the Director of Utility Services Consulting. Placer offers an in-depth understanding of the energy sector and is a frequent speaker and author on the future of the utility industry. In 2015, he was awarded an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Technology Transfer Award for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Distribution System Impacts Research. He has nearly 20 years of work experience and brings a unique, cross-cutting industry perspective, having worked for major corporations in both the solar energy and electric utility sectors. Placer’s overarching focus is to combine his broad experience and strategic, technical, and communications capabilities to simplify complex challenges into holistic, “no regrets” solutions for EnerNex clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Placer served clients as an independent consultant focusing on front-end strategy development for national and regional electric utility associations. While at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Placer oversaw TVA's entire renewable energy program suite and provided key renewable energy insights to TVA’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). Prior to his time with TVA, he served as a design engineer at BP Solar, leading the technical development of several patented solar photovoltaic panel designs.
In addition, EnerNex’s smart grid engineering group welcomes Oluwadamilola (Dami) Soyoye as a consultant with experience in generation, transmission and distribution and power market operations. Prior to joining the firm, she worked with NTech Solutions as an Engineer in Distribution Capacity Planning/Distributed Energy Resources Integration and served on the Research team with Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA). Soyoye holds a Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Covenant University.
Jamie Fontaine was brought on board as EnerNex’s IT Manager skilled in design, implementation and administration of IT infrastructure solutions. Prior positions include a Senior Systems Engineer/Technical Lead with Allianz Life and Director of Information Technology for T.O. Plastics. Fontaine graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Master’s of Science in the Management of Technology while being advised by grid modernization expert Dr. Massoud Amin and received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Moorhead State University.
