BOXBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Board of Directors of Sterilis, LLC, the innovator in regulated medical waste management (RMW), today announced that Michael K. McGarrity has been named Chief Executive Officer. McGarrity brings to Sterilis extensive operational and strategic experience in the healthcare, medical devices and diagnostics and biotech industries.
McGarrity comes to Sterilis most recently from Nanosphere, a nanotechnology-based molecular diagnostics company, where he served as Vice President before being named CEO in February of 2013. McGarrity engineered an operational and strategic turnaround that resulted in its successful sale to Luminex in 2016. Prior to Nanosphere, McGarrity spent 13 years at Stryker Corporation (NYSE: SYK) in sales, marketing and operations. McGarrity led Stryker into markets such as post-operative pain management, surgical fluid waste management and interventional pain management. He also had executive general management responsibility for a newly created business unit at Stryker focused on interventional spine pain management.
"Bob Winskowicz and the dedicated and talented team at Sterilis have developed a highly disruptive approach to treating infectious medical waste at the point-of-care. Sterilis’ compelling value proposition and broad customer base position the company to rapidly become a major player in the global RMW industry,” McGarrity said. “I would like to thank Bob Winskowicz and the Board of Directors for the confidence they have placed in me to lead the next phase of the company’s growth. I am committed to building significant value for all of our stakeholders including customers, employees and shareholders.”
About the Sterilis Technology
The patented Sterilis device
uses steam sterilization and grinding technology to transform medical
waste, including used needles and sharps, into a harmless confetti-like
material that can be disposed of in the regular trash. The Sterilis
method of waste disposal reduces toxic air pollution created when RMW is
incinerated, which is one of the leading causes of greenhouse gas
emissions. The device requires no fixtures or plumbing and can be
plugged into a standard electrical outlet. In 2017, the Sterilis device
received two prestigious industry awards this year- the
MassTLC Leadership Awards, Technology for a Better Tomorrow and Environmental
Leader’s Product
& Project Awards 2017.
